Brenda started in the health care industry as an EMT in 1989.  She received her Paramedic Certificate in 1993 and an Brenda HelmsAssociate’s Degree in Paramedicine in 1994.  Brenda taught Paramedicine from 1995- 1997 at North Central Texas College in Gainesville, Texas while working full time at Cooke County EMS.  She was the Infection Control Officer for the Department for 5 years.

In 1997 Brenda received her ADN from North Central Texas College and began working as an RN in the Emergency Department.  In 2006 she received her BSN from the University of Phoenix and in 2008 she received her MBA/HCM degree from University of Phoenix.  Brenda received her Certification in Infection control in 2010.  Brenda has worked the majority of her nursing career in the Emergency Department and has spent the last 5 years in Infection Prevention.  Brenda works for a partially physician owned Cardiovascular Surgical Hospital.  She has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Texas Society of Infection Prevention and Control for the previous 3 years.  She has also been active in the local APIC D/FW Chapter as Program/Education Chair and currently as President Elect.
