About Our Speaker:

Cathy has over 25+ years in healthcare services management. During her position as a Regional Manager for Barnes Hospital, she transitioned 6 physician practice groups to the newly purchased West County Hospital to stabilize hospital admissions. She also acquired and developed other practices to further expand service lines.

As Regional Administrator for NovaMed, she oversaw operations of the physician practices as well as surgery centers, and optical shops in the metro St.Louis/Illinois area. Under her direction a state of the art refractive surgery center was designed and opened. Cathy obtained a large vision care contract that tripled the volume of procedures for the refractive physicians in her market.

Cathy is President and Founder of Excellentia Advisory Group, a consulting and development company serving both the surgical industry through ASC'S as well as surgical hospitals and the outpatient industry through physician practices and ancillary centers. Cathy for the past several years has studied all the regulatory agencies that impact the ASC industry and has made herself an expert on the subject. Cathy is a frequently speaker at State ASC conferences to speak on regulatory compliance topics.  Cathy also offers expertise in running the day-to-day operations of a surgery center and assists several privately-owned surgery centers across the country as their management company. Her vision is to offer services that will be cost effective for her clients and fill those gaps that occur due to immediate needs. She has hired consultants that are knowledgeable and follow TJC, AAAASF and/or AAAHC standards.  Cathy herself became an AAAASF survery in 2016 and now IMQ in 2018. Cathy has her CASC certification.

Description:

At this point AAAHC is not changing their standards for 2019 surveys from their current manuals. You will be working from the 2018 Manuals that were previously made available. So, you will be using the 2017-2018 Accreditation Handbook for Medicare Deemed Status until further notice (blue cover).

Non-deemed facilities are being told there will be announcements in the spring, suggestions available for public comment. So even if their suggestions are approved, they will not be implemented in the immediate future. Therefore,  continue with the 2017/2018 For Ambulatory Care  (green cover).

This one-hour session is going to give you an in-depth review of citing’s that occurred in 2018 and early 2019.  The goal of this presentation is to alert you to weak areas,  by chapter, regardless of deemed vs non-deemed status.

Tools will be available to assist you with your compliance as it relates to the most common deficiencies.  It is likely no surprise that Credentialing & Privileging, Patient Safety/Safe Injection Practices, Documentation, Facilities & Environment, as well as  Quality Improvement continue to be the standards causing the most common areas of concern.

We will also address consultative comments that we see coming across our desks from clients looking for clarification and assistance. Knowing that surveyors often share their personal opinions, sometimes it is hard to know which direction to turn!

Even if you are not scheduled for a survey this year, keeping up is important and likely will even help you if you end up with a state survey. Join us for this one-hour session, we are confident you will find the information informative and the tools we offer as examples helpful in assisting you guide your facility towards compliance.
