DESCRIPTION:

Antibiotic resistance is widely recognized as a critical threat to public health. And the problem seems to be getting worse. All healthcare facilities and professionals are being asked to do their part. Already mandated in LTC, proposed for hospitals as a mandate, and now Antibiotic Stewardship Programs have made their way into the ASC world! Missouri requires its Ambulatory Surgery Centers to have one in place by August 28, 2017. Due to Federal discussions,  other states will likely follow suite. This one hour session will explain the current regulatory environment and define what a stewardship program should contain.  Our program is based on the CDC recommendations and we will be providing you with the required policy and checklists. We have put these in word documents so that you can customize them for your facility. As well we have for you therapeutic guidelines for commonly used antimicrobials for surgical prophylaxis so you don’t have to hunt for them. Robin and Cathy have simplified the process for you, these tools and described program with allow you to quickly get your facility up to speed.  This session, once you obtain your certificate of participation, will suffice as part of your infection control training for 2017!
