Quality Reporting for 2017:

The wait is over; the Federal Register November edition posting the final rule re Quality Reporting requirements for ASC’s have been published. And yes, this does include the requirements for using the mandated patient satisfaction survey at your ASC.  The good news is you will have a year in advance to prepare for that implementation, but it would be prudent to initiate processes and training now in order to effect both implementation as well as outcomes.  We will discuss all 7 of the new measures in detail.  ASC – 13 Normothermia Outcome, ASC – 14 Unplanned Anterior Vitrectomy and ASC 15 (a-e) which all relate to the patient survey.

CMS Emergency Preparedness requirements:

We will discuss how this was factored out of the 2012 Life Safety Code NFPA 99 as well as the previously published CMS Emergency Preparedness checklist.  This is all good news and the results of focus for your ASC will center on:

What and how to coordinate with the state and local disaster planning departments

Annual drill clarification

Tracking of patients during an emergency ate your facility

Handouts will include the CMS Memo and Federal Register section for ASC’s that outlines requirements

Non Discrimination Section 1557:

If you have not completed the requirement to have available the 15 common Limited English Proficiency tag lines for your location/facility we have the tools to assist you in doing so.  You will be provided with your states list, and the analysis to easily pull your languages if you serve a multistate population.  You will have the link to the Office of Civil Rights translated tag lines so you can easily cut and paste the ones you need.

You will also need the information to update your polices to be in compliance with this regulation as it relates to both language/communication as well as general nondiscrimination requirements that have been updated by this regulation.

Handouts will include LEP per state listings, language required for your Policy and Procedure update, and several state translation examples.

American with Disabilities Act Regulations for Service Animals:

It appears many facilities are being faced with the challenge of service animals in their facilities.  Calls to state departments of health, not the jurisdiction by the way for this situation!, are often offering erroneous information.  This presentation will offer the latest information from the Federal ADA guidelines that are very specific so that you might update both your policies as well as your practices.

Handout includes US Department of Justice ADA Service Animal guidance statement.
