Maria Tietjen has over 35 years of experience in the field of nursing and management in the clinical setting. Ms. Tietjen’s experience extends across direct patient care, administration and sales.  Ms. Tietjen is the Executive VP of Nursing and Clinical Services for 9 ambulatory surgery centers.  She is responsible for overseeing all the nursing and clinical managerial aspects, regulatory and compliance, infection prevention and all areas of patient care.  In the past, she held the position of charge nurse for the orthopedic department of a 16-room operating suite in northern New Jersey. She directed the nursing staff and was responsible for the equipment, implants and training of the personnel. From 1988 on she has been working in the field of Outpatient Ophthalmic ASC’s.  Ms Tietjen has been published in magazines and lectures at ASCRS and AAO meetings.

Description:

Maria Tietjen is a seasoned perioperative nursing leader and Executive Vice President overseeing 9 surgery centers offering ophthalmic surgical services.  Maria will present an indepth discussion on all the variable and factors that can adversely effect infection control in the ophthalmic operating room.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss the CMS mandate on what an ASC infection control program should look like;
  • Be able to discuss those recognized authorities in the field of infection control for which you should design your infection control program after;
  • Be able to discuss those challenges, variable and clinical issues that can adversely effect your infection control program specifically for an ophthalmic operating room.
